Our junior summer season of golf is now well and truly teed off. 35 games have been mapped out to cover March to the end of October.

Juniors selected for our league or cup matches have been presented with new black, club Polo shirts courtesy of Team Clothing Solutions . Our younger golf members have also been given a club Polo shirt to wear for when they play or come for coaching lessons.

Once again we have entered the British Legions’ National Competition and have progressed to round 2 after defeating Staining Golf Club from Blackpool. Our next opponents are Formby GC.

Our coaching lessons have now started at both Birkdale GC and our own club, under the supervision of Birkdale’s Professional Nick Jennings and our Junior Organiser John Doran.
Coaching is being split into two groups. The older juniors with Nick on alternative Friday nights at Birkdale and alternative Saturday mornings with both Nick and John for our younger golfers. The latter being a new initiative.

The Junior Committee have been asked by our Lady Captain to play in a marathon golf day for her charity, Make a Wish. On Saturday 16th June, our juniors are going to play 3 rounds of golf (54 holes). Our younger golfers and none golfers will be taking part in a fun putting competition and hope to complete 36 holes. If you a son or daughter who would like to take part in the putting competition, then please bring them to the club. It will start at 2pm. Please support them by sponsoring them. Sponsor forms are in the office as well as each junior having a form.

Local Primary Schools where invited to take part in a pilot putting competition on Friday 11 May. Teams of 4 from each school took part in various putting skills. The Junior Committee are hoping to work with the schools in attracting more new junior members to our club.

Our league season kicks off on Wednesday night at Southport & Ainsdale, when 5 of our top juniors will play individual match play games. Good luck to the boys.

International match between a junior team from Cyprus has been arranged for Monday 23rd July. More news on this nearer the time. The Cyprus boys have also entered our Junior Open which is on Thursday 26th July.

Finally, for our younger golfers, we now have Blue Tee markers on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 9th fairways.
Over the coming season, from time to time, our younger golfers will be playing golf on a reduced course. They will be out with either a Junior Committee member or their parents / guardian. So please be patient with them, and remember they are our future of our club.

If you have a children or know of someone who has and wants to learn how to play golf then please contact the office or John Doran for further details. Don't worry if they haven't got any clubs, as the Junior Committee purchased clubs and are happy to lend FREE of charge.
