The Claret Jug - The Open 2026

visiting Southport Old Links - 01 April 2026

24/03/2026

The Claret Jug Visits Southport Old Links – Wednesday 01 April 2026 We are delighted to announce that The Claret Jug, one of golf’s most iconic trophies from The Open Championship, will be visiting Southport Old Links Golf Club on Wednesday 01 April 2026, as part of the build-up to The Open at Royal Birkdale later this year. (this is not an April fool despite the date.....) This is a fantastic opportunity for members and juniors alike to experience a piece of golfing history up close. Event Details The trophy will arrive at Southport Old Links during the afternoon, with activities running from approximately 2:00pm through to 4:00pm. The Claret Jug will be on display in the clubhouse, providing members with the opportunity to come along and view the trophy and take photographs. Please note: A strict no-touch policy applies to the trophy at all times Photographs are very welcome, but the trophy must remain within its display Junior Activity & Coaching As part of the visit, we are pleased to be working in partnership with Southport Golf Academy, who will be delivering junior putting clinics during the afternoon using Trackman technology. This promises to be an excellent and engaging session, helping to inspire the next generation of golfers. Further details on group timings will be communicated directly to junior members. Earlier in the Day The Claret Jug will begin its visit locally at Southport Golf Academy during the morning, where junior taster sessions and activities will be taking place before the tour moves across to our club in the afternoon. Don’t Miss It We encourage all members to take this opportunity to visit the clubhouse during the afternoon, see this historic trophy in person and be part of the excitement as we look ahead to The Open returning to the local area. This is a rare and special occasion for the club and we look forward to welcoming members throughout the afternoon.

Women in Golf Charter

@ SOLGC - 2026 & Beyond

19/03/2026

Council would like to formally recognise and thank Alison Bryant for her commitment and contribution in her role as our Women in Golf Charter Champion for the last 2 years. The Women in Golf Charter, led nationally by The R&A and England Golf, supports clubs in developing a more inclusive culture and creating meaningful opportunities for women and girls within the game. Alison has played an important role in helping Southport Old Links continue its commitment to these principles, promoting engagement, visibility and positive progression within the club. Alison has indicated her intention to step down from the role at the end of the current year. Importantly, she has kindly offered to remain in post through 2026 if required and is willing to support and mentor a successor during a transition period. Council is extremely grateful for both her service to date and her willingness to ensure a smooth handover. Early notice of her decision allows us to undertake structured succession planning and we will now be inviting expressions of interest from members who may wish to take on the role in the future. The position is not gender-specific and Council believes a shadowing arrangement during 2026 would provide an excellent opportunity for a smooth transition. Further details regarding the role and responsibilities will be available in due course and anyone interested in hearing more can get in touch with the Office to find out more and discuss this important and exciting role for the club moving forward.
